The Year 6 mixed ASDA Kwik cricket competition took place at Kibworth CC on Thursday 21st June. 9 teams from across Leicester-Shire and Rutland took part in the competition which was also a Level 3 ‘School Games Super Series’. With the weather looking doubtful and heavy showers predicted, the schools arrived early so they were ready to go when the rain cleared.

The matches got under way at 10am before a massive downpour delayed proceedings. After the 40minute rain break, the schools who had been split into 3 pools continued their first game. Strong performances from Abbey (East Leicester), Kibworth (Blaby & Harborough) and Sir John Moore (North West Leics.) primaries meant they went through to the semi-finals as group winners. The highest second place team was harder to determine with Granby (west Leicester), Ketton (Rutland) and St Marys Catholic (north Charnwood) all finishing on 4 points. St Marys who scored 500 runs in their 2 games went through to claim the remaining semi-final place.

Ketton proved too strong for Granby in their play-off to finish 5th. A play-off round between Brownlow (Melton), Mercenfield (Hinckley and Bosworth) and St Peters and St Pauls (South Charnwood) was necessary to determine the final placings for the competitions. Brownlow won both their play-off games to finish 7th with St Peters & St Pauls in 8th place and Mercenfield in 9th place.

In the first Semi, Kibworth continued to dominate taking on impressive 12 wickets against Sir John Moore to set up a Final showdown  with Abbey who won their Semi.
