Leicestershire County Cricket Club Community Team deliver 7 Chance to Shine Street (formerly StreetChance) projects across Leicester and Leicestershire. Thanks to funding from Chance to Shine, we will be able to offer free Chance to Shine Street sessions for Girls aged 8 – 16, Youth aged 8 – 15 and Young Adults (male and female) aged 16 – 24.
Chance to Shine Street is a quick, small-sided game played in urban areas with limited green spaces. Played in ball-courts, multi-use game areas and indoors, this 20 ball, 20 minute game is played with a tennis ball wrapped in electrical tape. Players can wear whatever they like and no equipment is required, making it easy for everyone to get involved.
Chance to Shine Street community sessions run all year round bringing cricket to thousands of young people in inner-city areas. It uses the game to promote social cohesion and create opportunities in diverse communities affected by anti-social behaviour and youth crime.
Community sessions are delivered on a weekday evening to develop players skills and game experience in the lead up to school holiday competitions and leagues. Local winners will progress to national finals with the opportunity to play against Chance to Shine Street participants from other cities across the country.
