The girls at Cropston Cricket Club played their first Under 13’s match against the boys of Soar Valley in the Leicestershire Youth League last Sunday. “Although it is by no means the first time an all girls side has been put together it still represents a first for the Club and comes 7 years after starting a girls section.” said Richard Pawley, who runs the girls cricket at Cropston CC. “They all played incredibly well, despite the first match nerves and will have all benefited from the experience.” The match itself was won by Soar Valley with the Cropston girls scoring a more than respectable 53 runs against some good bowling from Soar Valley, with Mollie Mee and Rebekah Johnson both scoring 12. Soar Valley got the 54 runs needed for the loss of one wicket.
Cropston have been working closely with LRC to engage with their local secondary schools, most successfully with The Martin High School in Anstey, where Richard ran some girls cricket sessions off the back of some Chance to Shine girls lunchtime sessions and saw a number of those girls join the cricket club.
LRC wish the team all the best during the rest of their Leicestershire Youth League campaign.
