As part of the ECB and LRC’s ongoing relationship with local construction colleges an exciting project was completed at Kegworth Town CC this summer.
The club’s electronic scoreboard was fixed to wooden posts throughout the season but the club were keen that it have a permanent and secure home that would also incorporate the club clock. Club Chairman Carl Sutton saw the opportunity to work with partners to achieve this vision and contacted L&RC to see if any support was available through our existing relationships with construction college departments.
Given the clubs location and the distances for Leicestershire based colleges to travel we decided there was an opportunity to work in partnership with other local colleges to support this development and so conversations were brokered with Derby college who have already supported a number of projects in their county and nationally as part of the NatWest CricketForce programme.
Clive Smith and his team of construction students designed and built a brick structure for the electronic scoreboard with work starting in early May two days each week around exam commitments. The project has been hugely beneficial for the club and the students who have gained valuable experience.
All materials were funded by the England & Wales Cricket Board in conjunction with Jewson. The expertise of the college students was provided free of charge and so there has been a huge cost saving for the club.
