Narborough & Littlethorpe CC and City Cricket Academy teamed up to run a Free Girls Cricket Masterclass session on Thursday 14th April 2015.
More than 30 girls from various clubs around the county attended the session which was supported members of the England Women’s cricket team. Carl Crowe, England Womens coach was joined by England players Tammy Beaumont, Becky Grundy and Sonia Odedra who passed on their expert advice to the players.
Things got rather competitive with Sonia and Carl running some bowling nets, with 3 teams competing for the most direct hits. On the other side of the hall, Team Grundy faced up against Team Beaumont in some indoor games. The girls had an opportunity to bat with the England players and face the tricky bowling of the CCA’s Anu!
The girls then got a further opportunity to receive some coaching during some hardball nets, with a numbers of balls hitting the backboards and the stumps!
The session was wrapped up with a Q&A session, as the girls found out more about how the England Women first got involved in cricket, how often they train and their best advice to score runs, take wickets and make fielding fun.
Many thanks to Narborough & Littlethorpe CC’s Will Rossiter who facilitated the evening, to Don Bhagawati and the CCA staff who not only supported the England Women, but also let their venue be used for free.
And finally many thanks to the members of the England Women’s team for helping to inspire the next generation of Women’s cricketers!
