The Girls Leicestershire Young Cricketers programme will kick off in January with some new additions to the coaching staff and coaching programme itself.
First of all we are excited to announce that England & Middlesex Women’s player Fran Wilson will be joining our coaching team over the winter. Fran is a Level 3 coach and will be passing her knowledge and international experiences primarily to the U15 age group, supporting their current coach Bim Down. I am also pleased to announce that LRC Cricket Development Coach Sam Shipman will be joining the team, supporting the Leicestershire Women as well as the Girls LYC programmes. Sam is a Level 2 coach and also coaches at his local club, Barrow Town CC.
Once again Heather Beattie, Dipesh Patel, Stephen Franklin and Tom Leonard will be coaching on the programme throughout the winter and summer.
The 2016 programme will also have a new structure in place. Along with the Development & Performance groups running on Thursday nights, a Basics group has been put in place which will run over the course of 6 Sundays’ during the winter. The Basics group will aim to develop some of the player’s core skills and help grow their confidence using these skills in hardball cricket.
2016 will also see us restarting a 10 week Girls EPP programme. We have a number of talented girls in the age groups as well as a small core of U19 girls who will benefit from some extra training throughout the winter months.
Leicestershire Women started their pre-season preparations this week as they look to build on their 2015 promotion to Division Two of the ECB County Championship.

Finally, we were pleased to hear that on Monday 20th June the England Women will be taking on Pakistan Women here at Grace Road in the first of three One Day Internationals. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase Women & Girls cricket and for players and supporters in the county to have a chance to see some international cricket in Leicestershire!
