In January 2016 we launched The Leicestershire Pathways, which is a tiered coaching programme for young cricketers from u9 to u19 within Leicestershire and Rutland. Our aim is to provide a coaching structure that supports the development of young cricketers within the county alongside their club and school cricket.

In its first year we have had some very good feedback for the Pathways programme and we are looking to ensure we continue to drive the standards forward.  From the feedback received and an internal review we have made a couple of tweaks to the Pathways and the Leicestershire Young Cricketers County Programme. The Leicestershire Pathways

In 2016/17 the Pathways programme will run for eighteen weeks.   Six sessions pre-Christmas starting the week commencing 7th November, and then twelve in the new year commencing 9th January.

Rather than running trials for all newly nominated players in the autumn, this year all new nominated boys will be invited straight into Pathways at Bronze level and observed over the first six weeks.   Movement between levels will then take place at Christmas and then consistently where required throughout the New Year.  We will also have in place some Key Performance Indicators that we believe players need at certain ages throughout their development.

All county players from summer 2016 will also join the Pathways programme.  Hereby the County cricket trials will take place at Easter to select a summer squad for 2017.   Players will be selected from the Pathways programme for a County trial on nomination from the LCCC Pathways coaching staff.  Please note, if a player you nominate is unable to attend or does not wish to take up the invitation to Pathways but still wishes to be considered for a County trial at Easter then they will be able to do so.  The Leicestershire Young Cricketers programme for County cricket will then run from April to September.

Finally the pathways programme will run at duel age groups, u12, u14, u16 and then go to three age groups at u19.  For players at u10 level we will run a separate programme basing the trials on Kwik Cricket and then run a coaching programme to help introduce the players into hard ball cricket. So please also nominate players at u10 level.

I feel this is unfair for them so please will you only send those who you believe are your better and more competent cricketers.

The deadline for nominations and information back from parents is Friday 26th August.
