Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport (LRS) will again be supporting the Community Games project. Sport and physical activity has the ability to reach out to all of our communities and create a sense of belonging and pride in where we live. It has a unique power to motivate and inspire, and through working with our many partners, our challenge is to create the opportunity for everyone to achieve a little bit more, aim a little bit higher and go a little bit further.
Last year’s programme engaged over 20,000 people in over 50 different events around Leicestershire, Leicester, & Rutland. The Community Games will provide an opportunity to take part in, or be a part of both sporting and cultural activities, offering something for everyone.
Community Games are fun, inclusive, and an opportunity for celebration for each local community. Community Games event could be in a street, an estate, a local business, regular users of a park, or other public space – an event that is organised by the community, for the community. Community Games includes both sporting and cultural events, with some kind of ceremony, ideally and opening and/or closing ceremony.
Whether it is a come and try session, contest or an opportunity to try something new, whatever the focus of your Community Games, you should provide an opportunity for everyone in your community to participate. A great way to showcase some of the cultural activity that goes on in your community or your event is to hold a ceremony to open or close your event.
