The Brit Insurance Achievement Awards were held at Lords Cricket Ground on Thursday 18th October to honour the individuals who have contributed to the success of Chance to Shine in 2012. The evening was held in the Long Room and was supported by current and former England stars that were on hand to present the awards and support the evening’s celebrations.

Chance to Shine (C2S) now in its 7th year, aims to reach 2milion children in one third of state schools. It is funded by the Cricket Foundation who is continuing to raise funds so they can continue delivering cricket in schools beyond the original planned programme of 10 year.

The annual awards ceremony provides an opportunity to recognise the hard work, determination and commitment of volunteers, schools and coaches who have supported the cricket foundation C2S programme over the previous year.

Jay Chauhan was nominated by Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket in the Young Leader category in recognition of the fantastic voluntary work he’s done over the last few years but in particular for his support of C2S delivery in Leicester during 2012. He was presented with the National Award by Ed Smith (former England, Middlesex and Kent cricketer).

Jay completed over 100 hours towards his vCricket award whilst completing his GCSE’s. He officiated at both school and club competitions and has supported extra-curricular cricket coaching with both boys and girls at Soar Valley. Although now a student at Loughborough College, Jay continues to support the PE department at Soar Valley in his spare time.

Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Jay on winning the award and to thank him for the fantastic work he’s done and continues to do. He is a role model for young people giving back to his local community by providing opportunities for other people to play cricket.
