On Tuesday 27th January, Leicestershire & Rutland Cricket ran our first ever talent ID day specifically for individuals with a disability. IMG_2622 (480x640)

We had 12 young people with learning disabilities attend the day which was held at the indoor school at Grace Road, giving the participants a chance to play in a professional environment. Many thanks to Leicestershire CCC for provding the space.

During the session, coaches Tom Leonard and Graham Redfern put a number of cricketing skills to the ‘test’ through various casual drills and games. Along with batting, bowling and fielding other skills included movement coordination (balance, agility and hand eye coordination).

It was great to meet young people with a passion to play sport and cricket – there were certainly some very talented players!

IMG_2621A huge thanks must go to the schools who allowed their students to attend the day,  and also to Graham Redfern who took time out support Tom on the day.

Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket are looking to enter a disability county team into  the ECB Super 9s Incrediball competition, which would be another first for the  county. If you are interested in getting involved as a player or volunteer, or know  someone who would like to be involved, please contact our Tom Leonard (Cricket  Development Officer – Inclusion) on 0116 244 2198 or 07821 839 252.
