On Saturday 26th May 2012, Uppingham Town CC hosted the County U11 Lady Taverners club competition. Teams from Cropston, Newbold Verdon and Narborough & Littlethorpe CC’s took part in a round robin competition. The U11 competition is played using Kwik cricket rules and was first introduce in 2011 to compliment the U13 and U15 competitions which have been running for a number of years.
Cropston set a competitive total of 247 – 2 in their first game against Newbold Verdon which saw them hit a massive 6 over square leg. Despite some tight bowling, Newbold were able to chase their score comfortably reaching 266 – 0 after their 8 overs.
Although they hit another 6 in their second game, the Narborough & Littlethorpe bowlers were able to restrict Cropston to 229 -2. The Narborough side reached a comfortable 266-1 in response which left everything to play for in the final game of the day.
Newbold batted first and although they scored well, regular wickets meant they reached a final total of 230-6. Despite losing a wicket in their first over, Narborough passed their total and continued to score well without loosing any more wickets. With a total of 268 – 1, Narborough were confirmed at this years County U11 LT’s winners.
All of the games were played in the right spirit and the girls had smiles on their faces throughout.
