Leicestershire & Rutland Cricket will again be working in partnership with the main sports clubs in Leicester City alongside the Leicestershire Police to run the 2014 Operation park event. The aim is to run a multi-sport event that engages young people aged 11 – 18 in positive activities from the area surrounding Spinney Hill Park.
The event provides a platform for Police and partner engagement with attendees and spectators to help build relations between the Police and local hard to reach communities. The aim will be to create a sporting legacy with attendee’s signposted to future activities taking place in their area. Building on last years 1 day event, 2014 see’s the introduction of a girls only event at Crown Hills Community College on Thursday 29th May from 1:30 – 5pm and will see girls taking part in Cricket, Basketball, Zumba, Football, Hockey and Badminton during the day. Full details of how the day will run can be found here; Op Park- running list womens
The mixed event will then be run at Spinney Hill Park on Friday 30th May from 1:30 – 6pm with 200 participants divided into 5 groups who will make their way around 5 different sports activities; Cricket, Football, Basketball, Rugby and Hockey. Community sports clubs and other partner organisations will also be on hand to promote what they can offer to the young people who attend with stalls positioned around the main pavilion at the park for the majority of the day. Other activities will be positioned around the park so that those who aren’t lucky enough to be in the first 200 participants registered will have an opportunity to enjoy the day. We hope that many young people will be able to join us on the day to try out some new activities and be part of a fantastic event at the heart of the local community.
