Leicestershire County Cricket Club is offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to one talented young cricketer – the chance to join the club as part of our Search for a Star contest.
Aspiring players between the ages of 16 and 24 can earn either a summer contract with Leicestershire CCC or a place alongside other stars of the future in Leicestershire’s Academy by winning the competition.
Wasim Khan MBE, Chief Executive of Leicestershire County Cricket Club, said: “We acknowledge that there is huge talent outside the formal cricketing structure and it’s important that we are able to provide hope to the talented to inspire them to fulfil their dreams.
“It’s not every day that you get the chance to impress professional cricket coaches and have the opportunity to join the Academy or earn a summer contract but Search for a Star will provide that.
“We are looking forward to trials getting underway at the start of next month and are expecting them to be well attended given the great prize on offer.”
The club is holding open trials on:
Tuesday 2nd August 6.00-8.00pm at the Fischer County Ground and Thursday 11th August 6.00-8.00pm at the ECB Performance Centre in Loughborough.
There are two pre-requisites for prospective trialists: firstly, that they don’t play regular Premier League cricket in the Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket League, and secondly that they live or play cricket in the county.
Successful trialists will be invited to move forward into a training camp (dates TBC in the near future) ran by Talent Identification coach Mark Scott and Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket coach Dave Allen.
The final stage of Search for a Star will see a Search for a Star XI play against our Second XI in September, overseen by Leicestershire first and second team coaches.
The game represents a perfect chance to impress Elite Performance Director Andrew McDonald, Second XI Coach Pierre de Bruyn and Academy Director Nic Pothas, and following the fixture, one player has the chance to earn a contract or join our Academy.
Leicestershire has previously hosted trials for people through Talent ID for the ECB T20 City Cup, a competition that puts the best young players from cities across the country against each other with a view to one player winning a year-long contract with the MCC.
Search for a Star trial places are limited so please contact Dave Allen on firstname.lastname@example.org or call 07495 092679/0116 2442198 to secure your place.
