On Sunday 21st May, the LCCC Community Team ran the first of two Women’s Soft Ball Cricket festival’s of the year. Part of a national series of festival’s, the festivals aim to get more women into playing cricket and direct them to further playing opportunities. There is a focus on connected women (those associated to the game but not playing), students, sporty women and current players.
The festival at Kibworth CC saw Houghton & Thurnby CC, Kibworth CC, Sileby CC, Leicester Electricity Sports CC and Ketton CC take part in a series of 8-a-side pairs cricket. There were plenty of fours, sixes and impressive wickets taken during the day and not just from the current players. A number of activities were also running alongside the games including face painting and a bouncy castle for younger members of the family and some skill challenges with chances to win prizes such as T20 tickets and Women’s World Cup tickets.
It was fantastic to see current and new players taking part in the day, as well as seeing some great talent from younger members of the teams.
The next festival will be held at Leicester Caribbean CC on Sunday 6th August and will follow a similar format at the festival at Kibworth.
