Disability Cricket

In June 2014 Leicestershire & Rutland Cricket were able to appoint a Cricket Development Officer for Inclusion, meaning a full time role would be dedicated to inclusive cricket.

A development plan has been written taking into account 8 strands of development:

1. Insight
2. Elite Activity (County)
3. School Delivery
4. Community and 16+
5. Club Development
6. Competition
7. Coach Education (workforce development)
8. Funding & Sustainability

With the support of key partner Ellesmere College, we are able to deliver a strong and high quality programme to the SEND schools in Leicestershire & Rutland. The programme has also been extended this year to mainstream schools with SEND units, broadening the amount of disabled students playing various formats of cricket.

Working with local cricket clubs and partners, we are looking to establish ourselves in the community. We want to use cricket as a game that can address issues of social well being and inequalities in our local communities.

Leicestershire & Rutland are working with partners, schools and clubs towards the development of a county disability squad. A new pathway has been created to show a clear progression from club cricket to the England set up. LRC has very good links with the ECB Talent Development programme and we hope in the future, disabled cricketers from Leicestershire & Rutland will progress onto the talent programme with much success.
