Leics VixensThe Leicestershire Vixens played their first games in Division 2 at the start of May, but came away empty handed.

Asked to bat first against Nottinghamshire at Welbeck CC, the Vixens could only muster 97 runs. A fantastic spell of swing bowling from Notts’ Sonia Odedra. She removed the top 4 leaving Leicestershire reeling at 9-4.

Odedra was well supported by the rest of the attack, who picked up further wickets reducing Leicestershire to 35-7. However some spirited batting from Una Paramjothy (26) and U17 Collette Wale brought about a partnership of 44. Left arm spinner Kirstie Gordon took her 4th wicket to end the innings in the 44th over.

The Nottinghamshire reply was completed without much drama with wicket keeper Jane Smit scoring a fluent 42.

Monday 2nd May’s fixture against Wales was unfortunately ruined by the rain.

Wales got off to a good start with openers Parfitt (32) and Basketter (48) scoring quick runs in a partnership of 88. However the Vixens showed their fighting spirit once more, taking 5 wickets for just 19 runs reducing Wales to 107-6. The main damage was done in partnership between Lucy Higham and Katie Midwood, both taking 3 wickets a piece in their 10 overs. Collette Wale also picked up her first senior one day wickets, taking 2-20 from her 7 overs.

Wales recovered to 180-8 after their 50 overs, when unfortunately the rain came. Despite the groundsman’s best efforts to get the teams back on, with the Vixens requiring a new target of 74 to win from 20 overs, after one ball the bowlers foot holes were deemed unsafe and only 1 ball was bowled in the innings, which Niki Patel dispatched for 4.
