Over 40 groundsmen from the Leicestershire and Rutland Groundsman’s Association gathered at The County ground in Leicester for an evening with Andy Ward the Head Groundsman.

Andy gave a very insightful talk on the pressures of the amount of cricket played on the square, as at present the county have no out- grounds. As well as First and second eleven matches Andy also has specific 20/20 pitches and various other outside games such as Loughborough University.

Included as part of the talk Andy gave information on the renovation of pitches when they go out of use. Following on from this Andy gave a detailed practical demonstration on the repairing of foot holes. He then finished with a Q and A session.

All those who attended were very appreciative of Andy’s time and information. The event was organised by ECB County Pitch Advisor John Upton.

Good turn outs for John’s events are not unusual. He was the driving force for Leicestershire groundsman for the IOG training course in the Spring at Loughborough Cricket Club which was attended by 22 people
