Leicestershire County Cricket Club Women and Girl’s teams are embarking on an ambitious virtual fundraising campaign to raise money for the club’s Foundation.

Players across the Women and Girl’s teams will be covering a virtual distance from the Uptonsteel County Ground to New Zealand – the host of the next ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, in 2022.

With over 11,000 miles required to cover the distance, this is an incredibly ambitious challenge with family, friends and other cricketers across the county encouraged to get involved to support in completing the challenge, and to raise money for the LCCC Foundation.

The challenge will begin today and run until it is completed.

The challenge also coincides with International Women’s Day on March 8. On this date, the Club will be encouraging as many women and girls across the county to get involved to celebrate IWD’s global message of #ChooseToChallenge.

Leicestershire County Cricket Club, Cricket Development Officer – Women and Girl’s, Heather Beattie said: “As part of the Club’s ongoing fundraising activity, our women and girl teams have set themselves an ambitious challenge to jointly complete up to 11,000 miles by running, walking or cycling virtually.

“Cricket is for everyone; we want to make it a more gender-balanced sport and we’re hoping this initiative will show that we’re committed to realising that vision in Leicestershire.”

Fundraisers of all ages are being encouraged to sign up to the scheme which will raise vital funds for two Leicestershire-based children’s charities; Alex’s Wish and Healing Little Hearts.

Alex’s Wish and Healing Little Hearts have been selected by LCCC as partners for the club’s charity arm which has been refreshed as part of the club’s new strategy.

All money raised will be spilt across the two charities, the Academy of Cricket and placed into a fund for community cricket clubs to access.
